Konstantin Anatolyevich Ogiy is a Colonel and commander of the SOBR unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate for Kemerovo Region. He is a board member of the Russian Union of Afghanistan Veterans and the Kuzbass branch of the Combat Brotherhood, as well as a member of the Kuzbass Union of Paratroopers.
Ogiy is a veteran of combat operations in Afghanistan and the North Caucasus. He took part in Russia’s military operations in Chechnya and has been awarded three Orders of Courage.
Ogiy was a Russian commander of the failed operation to capture Hostomel and Kyiv Oblast during Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The groups under his command were tasked with reaching Hostomel but came under heavy fire and were destroyed.
Several reports in open sources claimed that Ogiy had been killed in March 2022. The reports were later refuted.
At the age of 18, Ogiy joined the Soviet Army and was assigned to the Airborne Forces. He was soon sent to Afghanistan, where he survived combat operations. For his courage, the young paratrooper was awarded the highest Soviet military decoration for enlisted personnel, the Medal “For Courage.”
In 1993, Ogiy was among the first personnel to join the newly established Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) in Kuzbass. In 2016, the unit became part of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya).
The subsequent chapters of Ogiy’s career remain unclear and poorly documented, particularly the period when he took part in Russia’s war against the self-declared Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. As a member of the Kemerovo SOBR, Colonel Ogiy was repeatedly deployed to the North Caucasus on official assignments. For his conduct and acts of bravery while on duty, he was awarded the Order of Courage three times.

Participation in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine
Within days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces had captured dozens of Russian servicemen. Some of their interrogations were subsequently published on social media.
The independent investigative outlet Slidstvo.Info examined the footage and other available evidence in its investigation “Who Is Fighting Against Ukraine?” and identified a number of the captured servicemen. The investigation also traced members of the Kemerovo OMON and SOBR units involved in the fighting around Hostomel.
According to Slidstvo.Info, the identified members of the Kemerovo SOBR, OMON special forces, and Rosgvardiya named Ogiy as their commander. The investigation reconstructed the composition of the assault group and found that each of the captured Kemerovo servicemen identified Ogiy as the officer commanding them.
This evidence places Ogiy in a command position during the operation around Hostomel and is relevant to establishing his role and potential responsibility for the actions of the personnel under his command.
On February 27, 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) released classified Russian military documents recovered after Russian positions near Hostomel were struck. The documents included identifying information on Russian servicemen, as well as passwords and codes used by the Russian military.
Documents officially published by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) identify Ogiy as the commander of one of the main assault units tasked with reaching the outskirts of Hostomel and providing fire support. In the documents, Ogiy is identified by the call signs “Пинцет-52” (“Pincet-52”), “Якут 101” (“Yakut 101”), and “База” (“Baza”).
The Myrotvorets database has reported Ogiy as deceased. However, this is contradicted by subsequent public evidence: in January 2023, Ogiy was publicly awarded the “Hero of Kuzbass” title, with photographs and reports documenting his presence at the ceremony.

The unit where Ogiy’s son, Timofey, serves was involved in the attempted capture of Kharkiv and the occupation of Kharkiv Oblast. Its current whereabouts could not be established from available open sources. However, recent activity on Timofey’s VKontakte profile indicates that he remains alive.
